Episode 000: Best Thing I Ever Did April 2
This is a special preview episode, thrashed together specifically for submission to the KarMel Scholarship. Take confessional podcasting, mix it with NPR-style interview documentary con tuneage, add one giant coming out story, and season liberally with one butt-kicking deadline. Serve fresh.

Update: I won! This podcast, plus a poem I submitted, were picked by Karen and Melody for the Special Judges’ Award for 2007. This is a little bit extra cool, because I’m the first person they’ve ever selected to honor for both writing and artistic merit. It’s awesome to be recognized. (Now email me and ask me what this works out to in dollars per hour, because ultimately it’s HIGH-larious. But also awesome.)

Mer,
Your bio suggests that you have a passion about getting in front of a microphone and changing people’s lives, and this podcast proves to me that you have the chops to do just that.
Up to now, I’ve been listening only to things at podiobooks.com (where I have a book hosted as well). Your little podcast here blows all of us writer-types out of the water. The production values are top-notch, the music beautiful and beautifully integrated, the timing exquisite. Yes, you are a producer, whether or not the industry yet recognizes that or not.
And, the writing is a wonder. It’s not just any writer/narrator who could put this portly, middle aged white guy into a 14 year old female’s life and make him understand. Make him feel. All those little epiphanies of our lives, the confusions and heartaches and triumphs, all are contained in this small story. I’m glad the universe conspired to recommend it to my attention.
Now, I’m off to recommend it to others’!
